Michelle's Story
Michelle, a member of the Survivor of Suicide Loss Support Group, recently shared that Community for Hope has been a wonderful support for her over the years.
"I lost my father and son by suicide. This group has reminded me that I am not alone in the unique emotions that one experiences when a loved one passes by suicide- and that time truly is the healer of all things."
Group facilitator, and Executive Director of Community for Hope, Sarah Danahy, remembers when Michelle first attended a group.
"Michelle drove to Oshkosh all the way from Beaver Dam to attend our grief support group. She barely spoke and cried throughout the time we met. The other members of the group allowed her to have space as they shared their stories. Throughout the last 6 years, I have had the privilege of watching her become stronger as she navigated her grief. She is now someone that offers support to new members who are completely overwhelmed at the start of their grief journey. Michelle gives back what she was given 6 years ago- the process is beautiful.
Our grief support groups are a significant source of support along the grief journey for many members of Oshkosh and surrounding communities.
